[GP-Copy]Blackheads

Those pesky textured little black dots known as Blackheads are difficult to remove and can show up on any part of the face, especially the nose

What are blackheads?

Blackheads form when a clog or plug develops in the opening of hair follicles in your skin. opens, exposure to the air causes it to look black and a blackhead forms.

For example: Just like when you cut open an apple or avocado that turns brown once the oxygen hits the fruit- is basically similar to when a pore turns black due to its oxygening.

Blackheads are non-inflammatory. This means they are not infected, and they will not cause pain and discomfort in the same way as pimples and pustules.

They tend to appear when hormones lead to the increased production of sebum, an oily substance, by the glands under the skin.

People with oily skin may be more prone to acne (including blackheads) because the sebaceous glands produce excess oil, especially in the T-zone and cheek areas.

But this kind of acne doesn’t discriminate and can affect just about everyone. It just becomes more severe in others that they need additional products and treatment to clear it out!

Here's What it Looks Like:

Unlike whiteheads, blackheads look black on the skin’s surface. They are known as open comedones because the head of the pore remains open, while the rest of the pore is clogged.

What Causes Blackheads?

Increased sebum (oily material produced by the sebaceous gland) production.

Abnormal formation of keratin (the protein that helps make your hair, skin and nails).

Increased hormones (androgen).

An increased presence of bacteria on skin that causes acne.

Bottom Line These are The Best Ingredients for Blackheads:

  • Salicylic acid: This is available over-the-counter for blackheads as a cleanser, toner or serum. It helps remove the top layer of damaged skin. Salicylic acid dissolves dead skin cells to prevent your hair follicles from clogging.

  • Azelaic acid: Barley, wheat, rye and other various grains naturally contain azelaic acid. It kills microorganisms on your skin and reduces swelling.

  • Benzoyl peroxide: This is available as an over-the-counter product (such as Clearasil®, Stridex® and PanOxyl®) as a leave-on gel or wash. It targets surface bacteria, which often aggravates acne. Lower concentrations and wash formulations are less irritating to your skin. Irritation (dryness) is a common side effect. It get to the root of the problem

  • Retinoids (vitamin A derivatives): Retinoids, (which is now available without a prescription), break up blackheads and whiteheads and help to prevent clogged pores. You may notice a change in skin color or peeling. Discuss with your esthetician on the best schedule for this
